Robert S. Hitchman Jr., affectionately know as “Steve” and “Rob”, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 11, 2024. Robert was born October 7, 1959, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Robert S. Hitchman Sr. and Okey J. Hitchman. He attended The original Oscar F. Smith High School, on Rodgers Street in Chesapeake, Virginia, graduating in 1978. After graduating, he went on to serve 6 years in the United States Army. Upon returning home from the Army, he gained employment at Norfolk Community Hospital where he spent 2 years putting to use his extensive medic training and certifications from the Army. He then ventured on to gainful employment at the United States Postal Service in Norfolk, VA where he worked tirelessly until his retirement in 2022 after 36 years of service. Robert loved spending quality time with his family and friends. He was an avid Steelers fan and enjoyed supporting the Washington Commanders and Dallas Cowboys out of love and support for his late mother and father when they were alive. Everyone that knew Robert, knew he was always the life of any party. He was so passionate about beating on his many different style drums and dancing to any beat or tune played. Even without any musical tune, he danced and enjoyed himself; causing anyone in his presence to laugh and smile. As well as being the glue to his entire family, Robert was a true man of faith, always praying and affirming the best outcomes in life. He fit the meaning of his name oh so well: “bright; shining; famed”. The legacy that Robert leaves is that of strong will, courage, fearlessness, and agape love. Robert will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

Lovingly submitted by his siblings: Thessalonians 4:13-18 “Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
