

Bob enlisted in the US Navy immediately after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He had a distinguished 30 year career in the submarine service, rising to the rank of LCDR. He was especially proud of his tour of duty aboard the USS Drum (SS-228) during the war, where he earned the Silver Star.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy “Dot” White, and his second wife, Marie White.
Survivors include his daughter, Carol Kramer of Norfolk; three step-children, Barbara Hope Smith of CA, Sue Sunseri (John) of CA, and Hal Spindel (Lynn) of HI; siblings, Elmer Duckinfield, Elsie Smart (Don), and Peg Neidig, all of PA; and many loving friends, relatives and neighbors.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Eldercare at Home Inc., most especially, Maria Stepney, Cynthia Brothers, Jessica Williams, Tracey Mills, and Lynetta Snead-Price for the kind and loving care shown to Bob over these past months.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, Dec. 14, 2012 at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel. Submarine Veterans Inc. will perform their funeral ritual during the service. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Battleship Commission, Mobile, AL or to a charity of your choice.
