On Jun 26, 2019, Romeo Ligutan passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 80, surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer. He survived by his loving wife, Teng; his daughter, Candi; and his granddaughter, Emmi.
Romeo was a man of few words, except when he was telling a joke or a story. As his name would suggest, he never missed giving presents to his wife, his daughter, and his granddaughter for Valentine’s Day, birthdays, and other special holidays. After retiring from the US Navy of 20 years, he enjoyed playing poker with his friends, and buying lottery and scratch tickets. He traveled the world with his wife to various places like San Francisco, NYC, Italy, and France. He played pool with his daughter, though she never won a game against him. His favorite past time was riding around the mall with his granddaughter on the motorized animals and taking her out to lunch for some pizza and gelato. Years after being the household chef, Romeo enjoyed eating out with his family. He only wanted the best when it came to things such as calamari, soft shell crab, and scallops. After a long day, he enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, or catching up on golf. He will not only be remembered as the funny guy, but also a kind one with a generous heart.
Special thanks to the ICU nurses; especially James, Robin, and Jake. You all made Romeo laugh, feel comfortable, and cared for. You also helped comfort the family in their time of need and put a smile on their faces. A huge thanks for the Jacintos’ and Jeffreys’. You’ve been there for the Ligutan family always without asking for anything in return. We can never repay the kindness and love you’ve shown us through all the years, but we are eternally grateful for you all.
