Mrs. Sandra "Sandi" N. Hales

Sandra “Sandi” Hales, 82, joined Buddy and Les on 1/27/25. She fought the good fight, but God had other plans. She is at peace and we are grateful for her life, our memories, and the joy she brought to all she knew. Sandra was born to the late Thomas Payton and Bertha Mae Forehand Newbern in Norfolk, VA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lester "Buddy" G. Hales; son, Lester "Les" G. Hales; and siblings, Neva Curling, Carl "Dugie" Newbern, Tess Powell, and Vernell Henderson.

Sandra loved Elvis Presley and his music will be played at her service. However, songs from the Sound of Music come to mind when she is remembered: “My favorite things” - her gift of love and laughter; “How do you solve a problem like Maria” - her silliness and spunk; “Sixteen Going On Seventeen” - the kid inside screaming to grow up but not really! She was just a fun person to be around and loved life!

Water sports, water toys, being outdoors, living life to its fullest is how she will be remembered. She didn’t want to leave us but it was her time to rest and be well. Godspeed Sweet Sandra! Your journey has just begun. We all love you.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her daughter, Slay Chappell (David); 99 year young sister, Lucrethia "TT" Henry; nieces and nephews, Pam Laws & Dan Cannady, Bee Powell, Sherry Powell, Lynn & Mark Morris, Karrie & Jake Stepp, Ryan, Dylan & Cami Stepp, Kyle & Emily Laws, Austin & Jenn Laws, Kelyn & Brian Yourmans, Troy & Carroll Curling, Angel & Todd Harrell, Shannon & Ryan Stoner, Shane Curling, Suzanne Weaver, Kelly Bohrer (Matt), and Kadence Grace Gardner; beloved granddog, Jovi Chappell and beloved companion, Noni Hales; and a host of other family and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 3, 2025 at noon at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6309 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk.
