Born in Nassawadox, Virginia, Tom was the son of the late Robert Theodore Young and Eleanor May O’Keefe. He is predeceased by his wife, Patricia Ann Woods.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Kenneth and Justin Young; daughters, Tammy McGaugh and Kendra Cranor; brothers, Donald, David, and Kenneth Young; twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
As a Naval Academy graduate, class of 1965, Tom retired as a Veteran of the Vietnam war having achieved the rank of Commander after 25 years of faithful military service. After retirement, Tom started a successful security guard business with his wife, Pat, and son, Ken.
Tom was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for nearly 50 years. Ordained as a High Priest, Tom served for several years as a lay Bishop of the local congregation. Tom also served as a Scout Master and volunteered in many other capacities to minister to families throughout the area. Tom’s cheerful disposition, even temperament, love of people, passion for service, and ability to “make a friend out of anyone” touched innumerable lives.
A funeral service for Thomas will be on Friday, September 24, 2021 beginning at 11:00 am with a visitation one hour prior. The services will be at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 4784 Princess Anne Rd. in Virginia Beach with burial to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens at 6309 E.
