

Velma E. Redway, 71, returned to her heavenly home on Sunday, January 24, 2016 after a valiant 6 month battle with cancer. She never lost her spirit or her faith. Her belief in God sustained her in her struggle and ultimately gave her peace.
Velma was born in Browns Town, Jamaica on June 28, 1944. She was a pastry chef with The Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company. She retired to Virginia in 2001 and spent her time as a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church as well as an adoring grandmother. Velma loved God, cooking, baking, gardening and crocheting. She never met a stranger, and took time to keep up with her many friends and family.
Velma was predeceased by her mother Lammie Gooden and her father Ebenezer Johnson.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband Louis of 48 years as well as 2 sons Wayne and his wife Donna, and Greig and his wife Anissa and a daughter Trudi; grandchildren, Jessica, Zavier, and Giana. She is also survived by 2 sisters, Norma Mclay (John) and Rosemaria (Ramsey) and 2 brothers, Charles Garcia and Ronald Robinson, and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
The viewing will be held Friday, February 5th from 6:00-8:00 pm at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Virginia Beach. The Funeral service will be held February 6th, at 11:00 am at the church. Burial to follow at Rosewood Memorial Park with a reception after at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Professional services provided by Woodlawn Funeral Home.
