Virginia Ligon Bernardo, 93, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2022 to be with her Lord and Saviour. Virginia was born in the Philippines to the late Nicanor S. Ligon and Elena de la Cruz Ligon. Virginia was predeceased by her son, Marcelino L. Bernardo, Jr; her brothers Nicanor Ligon, Jr, Freddie Ligon, Rene Ligon, Rodante Ligon and Roberto Ligon. Virginia received her Nursing degree from Baguio General Hospital School under a government scholarship program. She met her future husband, Marcelino M. Bernardo at her first assignment as a provincial health nurse at Norzagary, Bulacan. While working full-time and raising a family, she completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Far Eastern University in Manila, Philippines. Virginia and her husband emigrated to the United States in 1971, worked and settled in New York. During their retirement, they relocated to Chesapeake, VA and also spent time in Alfonso, Cavite, Philippines. Virginia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Virginia is cherished in memory by her beloved husband; daughter Virgie DeJesus and husband Ernie; daughter-in-law Rose Bernardo (Marcelino, Jr.); sons Mario Bernardo and wife Millie, Vichie Bernardo and wife Edna, and Marc Bernardo and wife Anna; 10 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; sisters Victoria Capiral, and Evangeline Hartl and husband Josef; brothers Jess Ligon and wife Jean, and Bayani Ligon. A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 2pm, June 23, 2022 in the Woodlawn Funeral Home chapel. Entombment will immediately follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
