
Walter Gerald Witt of Virginia Beach ended his long journey with Alzheimer’s Disease on March 29, 2008. Born in Forest, Virginia in 1930, Gerald graduated from New London Academy and joined the United States Navy at age 17. He enjoyed a 20 year career with the USN as a Chief Machinist Mate and he was a land based veteran of the Vietnam War. After retirement from the USN, Gerald worked for various companies, as a heating and air conditioning specialist. He then went to work with the Civil Service at Little Creek Amphibious Base where he retired after 20 years of service. Gerald will be remembered as a strong, hard working, and generous man who could repair anything. Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Rebecca Witt, his children, Wanda W. Janz and her husband, Todd R. Janz, William J. Witt, and Charles L.Witt and his wife Carolyn Witt and his daughter in law Kathleen M. Witt. He was predeceased by his son Douglas Witt and his grandson, Aaron Janz, and he leaves to cherish his memory, his granddaughter, Lindsey Evans and his grandchildren, Adam Witt, Sarah Holloman, and their families. The funeral service will be at Woodlawn Funeral Home 6329 E. Mr. Witt’s family is very grateful to the Citizen’s Committee and the staff of Allzwell’s Assisted Living for their love, care and support throughout his illness and to Bon Secours Hospice program for their loving care during the final weeks of his life.
