Bradley passed away on January 6, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Beverly Cooney, and his grandmother, Anita Shaw.
He is survived by his wife, Karie Cooney; his daughter, Kennadie Fritts, who held a uniquely special place in his heart; his siblings, LeeAnn Shaw Hauser (Colby) and Gregory Cooney; his niece, Madeleine Hauser; his chosen family, Marjy and John Duncan; and his closest friends, Mallory Hamblin and James Montgomery. Bradley also leaves behind a large extended family in Muscatine, Iowa, along with a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. He had a remarkable way of making everyone feel equally seen, valued, and loved.
Bradley proudly served 16 years in the Army National Guard. While he held thoughtful—and at times conflicted—views about the military, he was never conflicted about his service or the people he served alongside. His work assisting with tornado relief efforts on May 20, 2013, stayed with him throughout his life and helped shape his deep sense of responsibility to others.
That same commitment to giving back guided his volunteer work with Bridges of Norman, which became a defining part of his life. Helping people—especially those who were struggling—was not just something Bradley believed in; it was something he lived every day.
Bradley loved music, especially the kind most people didn’t know, understand, or couldn’t stand. He also loved disc golf, scary movies, tattoos, tacos, Asian food, philosophy, and photography. Endlessly curious and quick-witted, he was never short on strong opinions, good stories, or contagious laughter.
Above all, Bradley had a soft heart for babies, children, and animals. He adored his dogs, Max and Rufus, and it brings comfort to imagine them waiting for him now, reunited across the rainbow bridge.
Bradley will be remembered for his humor, his generosity, and the ease with which he made others feel welcome simply by being himself. He often worried about being a burden, never realizing how much strength, comfort, and meaning he brought to those around him. He will be deeply and forever missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Bradley’s memory may be made to Bridges of Norman (bridgesok.org).
A memorial service open to all will be held on Saturday, January 31, at 2:00 p.m. at Primrose Funeral Home, 3901 N. Flood Ave., Norman, Oklahoma.
