Corene Jones was born on September 28, 1939, in the home of her parents, Larkin and Dorothy Kirtley, in Perry, Oklahoma. She passed through the gates of Heaven on February 2, 2025. She lived with her parents and brothers, Gary and Clane, until she graduated from high school. She attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University for a short time, then moved to Oklahoma City and began working for Twentieth Century Fox on what is now Film Row in downtown.
She met Glenn Sr. in 1959 on a blind date after he returned from the Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, California. They were married on December 5, 1959, and moved into a duplex on NW 28th and Western.
Glenn Jr. was born in November of 1960, and the family moved to The Village in 1963. Gregg was born in January of 1966. Glenn Sr. transferred with OG&E to Canton, Oklahoma, in 1972, where they were the only full-time residents of the cabin area at Canton Lake. They moved to Canton in 1989. Corene worked as the high school secretary at Canton for 17 years before they retired to Norman, Oklahoma, to be near their beloved Sooners in 1994. There, they attended countless sporting events until the death of Glenn Sr. in 2013.
Corene moved to Edmond in 2014, where she lived until moving into assisted living in 2021.
Corene is preceded in death by her parents, Larkin and Dorothy Kirtley; her husband, Glenn Sr.; and her brother, Clane Kirtley. She is survived by her brother, Gary Kirtley, and Ruth Ann Erdner; her sons, Gregg and wife Carol of Springtown, TX, and Glenn Jr. and wife Kim of Edmond, OK; her granddaughter, Kelli Apple, and husband Justin of Springtown, TX; Wade Iven of Okeene, OK; great-grandchildren, Joie, Jaycie, Kinleigh, and Wyatt; her grandson, Noah Jones, and wife Lindsey, and great-grandchildren, Chloee and Luke; her grandson, Matthew; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other dear family and friends.
A funeral service for Corene will be held Friday, February 7, 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Primrose Funeral Service, 1109 North Porter Ave, Norman, OK 73071.
