David was born to Gene and Treva Coltharp in Lawton, OK on April 29, 1957. Many of his early years were spent in his hometown of Skiatook, OK. Following the death of his father in 1968, the family moved to Norman.
David married his high school sweetheart, Terry Balch, on April 3, 1976 in Norman. During their 37 years of marriage, they traveled across much of the United States and really enjoyed spending time with each other. One of David’s most pleasurable times was the Sunday morning outings to Lake Thunderbird to see the deer and other wildlife. These outing came to be known as “Deer Runs”. His passion was camping and fishing with his family and friends. He shared a deer lease with three fellow hunters and always looked forward to the time that he got to spend at the “80 acres”. For the past several years, you could find David watching Nascar racing each weekend.
He was preceded in death by his father Gene Austin Coltharp, his maternal and paternal grandparents and 11 aunts and uncles.
David is survived by his wife Terry, of the home; mother, Treva Coltharp of Norman; daughter, Melissa Coltharp and husband Burt Rodriguez of Norman; grandchildren Megan Coltharp, Morgan Smith, Shayla Coltharp, Alessandra Rodriguez, Tommy Rodriguez, Dillon Rodriguez and McKalya Rodriguez; sister, Debi Fryday of Noble; brother, Doug Coltharp of Noble; two uncles, Donald Coltharp of Skiatook, and Gene Grant of Washington State; 19 nieces and nephews and a large extended family.
