

Donnie died Saturday, March 23 in Norman.
He was born May 3, 1946, to Tommy Dee and Edna Murl (Johnson) Fountain in Oklahoma City. Donnie graduated from Norman High School in 1964. He joined the Naval Reserve while in high school and in 1965 joined the United States Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton. He obtained the rank of Sergeant in 1967 and served two tours in Vietnam. Upon returning from Vietnam to Paris Island in 1968, he gained completion for Drill Instructor. Prior to his honorable discharge in 1969, his achievements and awards included, but were not limited to Rifle Sharpshooter, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/device, Vietnam Service Medal w/2 stars, Combat Action Ribbon, Meritorious Mast, and Presidential Unit Citation.
He grew up in Norman and for about 10 years, he lived in south Texas returning to Norman in 2010 to be closer to his kids and grandkids. He was an avid OU fan and a collector of many items. He loved spending time with his grandkids, from watching them participate in numerous sporting events to fishing and hunting with them. He was a strong supporter of the VFW. He loved and felt blessed with the camaraderie he shared openly with his “Brothers in Arms.”
Donnie is survived by his son Donnie Fountain, Jr. and wife Teresa of Noble with sons Dylan, Dalton and Cole; daughter, Angee Donaghe and Jerry Shaw of Noble with children Dustin, Michael, Caleigh, Valarie and Jared; son-in-law, David Donaghe of Norman; daughter, Leigh Finchum and husband Ken of Texas with daughter Erin; three great-grandchildren; a sister, DeAnn; and numerous family and friends.
