

Husband and Wife EDWARD H. DURELL and MARION L. DURELL---Edward Howard Durell passed away on the morning of 30-August-2015 in Alexandria, Virginia. Born to Gordon Brackett Durell and Catherine Elizabeth Durell at Lynn, Massachusetts, 16-April-1926. He served in the Navy during World War II, stationed at Adak Island, Alaska; where the motto was "A girl behind every tree. No trees." He briefly spent time working in the retail industry before attending Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology in Boston, Massachusetts and then began a lengthy career in the chemical and plastics industry as a research and development technician. During that career he pioneered chemical processes and was awarded U.S. patent number 3,578,703. ---Marion Lottie Durell passed away in the afternoon of 21-January-2016 in Alexandria, Virginia. She was born to Walter Abel and Elizabeth Marion Farnsworth at Saugus, Massachusetts, 14-May-1929. She graduated in 1948 from Lynn (Massachusetts) English High School. Early in her working life she spent time with F.W. Woolworth Company specializing in notions, greeting cards and window displays.---Ed and Marion were married on June 27th, 1948 at First Methodist Church of Lynn, Massachusetts. In 1958 they moved to Connecticut where they had one child, Edward Arthur Durell. They moved in 1972 to Norman, Oklahoma where Ed spent the next sixteen years working in the plastics industry before retiring in 1988. Marion spent nearly the same time working for the Norman School Lunch Program at Whittier Middle School. In 2009 they moved to Arlington, Virginia to be near their son and daughter-in-law Paige Selby. Ed spent a lifetime as a Mason, member of Damascus Lodge at Lynn, Massachusetts. He had a lifelong interest in science and astronomy and especially enjoyed attending lectures at the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington, DC. Marion would often roll her eyes when he began explaining interplanetary gravitational fields and quantum theory. They both enjoyed playing darts, horseshoes, croquet, visiting casinos and attending parties where Ed could regale guests with his wit and wisdom; and again, Marion would roll her eyes. After moving to northern Virginia, Ed and Marion became Washington Nationals fans and would watch nearly every game. They were married 67 years at the time of Ed's death. Ed was predeceased by his parents Gordon and Catherine; sister Pauline and brother William. Marion was predeceased by her parents Walter and Elizabeth (also known as Liz and "B"). Ed and Marion are survived by son Edward and daughter-in-law Paige Selby, of Arlington, Virginia; and of course their cat Tom, and grand-dog Hutch, also of Arlington.Joint services for both Ed and Marion will be held 3:00 p.m. Tuesday August 30, 2016 at Primrose Funeral Service, Norman, Oklahoma.
