Elery received an Engineering degree from OU after serving in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He worked at Tinker Air Force Base, but his true passion was farming and tending to his cattle. Elery was married to Laura G. Mitchell in June 05, 1954.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura G. Mitchell; grandson, James Arnold Mitchell, Jr.; two sisters, Dorothy Murphy and Imogene Pittner.
He is survived by two sons, James A. Mitchell, Sr. and wife Marqueta, and Ronald Mitchell; brother, Kenneth Mitchell and wife Jean; 14 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Monday, July 29, at Sunset Memorial Park, 2301 E. Indian Hills Road, Norman. Services for Mitch will be 10:00a.m. Tuesday, July 30, at Calvary Chapel, 1401 W. Boyd St..
