After high school, she completed business school courses, prior to working as a secretary in the Oklahoma State government for several years. There she met her future husband, Robert Paul Harris. She and her husband, “Bob”, owned and operated a medical lab for over 20 years. Afterwards, she worked as an executive secretary, for 12 years at the Internal Auditing Department at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, retiring in 1991.
Bob and Jean married August 5, 1952. They were married for over 65 years. Together, they raised three sons. Her proudest accomplishment was her three surviving sons: William Paul Harris, a retired orthopedic surgeon, Robert Stephen Harris, a geologist, Richard John Harris, self-employed business owner.
She also loved to travel. Her travels included Europe, Asia, India and Egypt. One of her favorite areas to travel was New Mexico. She was very creative and enjoyed painting, needlepoint and gardening. She also rescued and adopted numerous cats. Another source of great joy for Jean was her grandchildren, some of whom she helped to raise, and her great-grandchildren.
