Johnnie was a life-long resident of Norman and graduated from Norman High School in 1950. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert F. Jones, Jr., immediately after graduation and welcomed a baby girl in March 1951. Three more daughters followed between 1953 and 1959. Johnnie’s primary focus was caring for her family, but she also helped her mother, Alice, in the operating of McCall’s Coffee Shop, a well-known staple of downtown Norman at that time.
Johnnie enjoyed attending her children’s school functions and supported each one through various activities. Once her children were grown, she held various customer service positions at local businesses. After retirement, Johnnie became an active member of CrossPointe Church. She enjoyed singing in the choir, but her passion was helping in the church food pantry which she continued until recently. For many years, she also worked as a volunteer for the Norman Regional Auxiliary.
Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, eldest daughter Terry Jones, and son-in-law John A. King. She is survived by daughters, Barbara King, Sharon Goff and her husband Fred, and Kathy Harlin and her husband Joe. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 24, at 10:00 am at CrossPointe Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the CrossPointe Church Food Pantry.
