Viola Pearl (Hummel) Jones, long-time resident of Norman, OK and avid Sooner and Norman Tigers sports fan, passed away December 22, 2014 after a brief illness. “Miss Pearl” was born in Moore, OK September 16, 1943. She grew up in rural Moore on a farm. She was a graduate of Noble High School in 1962. Her desire to advance herself led her to completing more than 90 credit hours in night school at Oklahoma City Community College in pursuit of an accounting degree. “Miss Pearl’s” great interest in construction and accounting ultimately lead her to the position of office manager and accountant for R & M Mechanical for 40 years. She felt a great responsibility to her profession and was a long time member of the National Association of Women in Construction, the Oklahoma Chapter. Pearl enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, all areas of sports, and photography. She was preceded in death by her parents, Winfred and Jennie Hummel; brother, Ivan Hummel; sister, Lillie Hummel; and ex-husband, Dale Jones. Surviving family includes her sister, Lois Back; sister, Jennielee Nickel; brother, Raymond Hummel; son, Stephen Jones; and many nieces and nephews. She had a beautiful smile to share with everyone. She has deeply touched all those around her with her grace, wit, and energy. We will truly miss this bright spot in the world. Honorary pallbearers are all of the young athletes touched through her love of the Norman High School Tigers and Lady Tigers basketball teams.
