Randall “Randy” Lyle Fowler died suddenly but peacefully at home in Norman on Thursday, Oct. 26, at 64 years old. Randy was born on March 27, 1959 to Fern Anita and Frederick Roger Fowler. Randy was passionate about the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and many other activities.
Randy graduated from Putnam City High School in 1978 and went to college at OU. He then worked in construction before beginning a long and successful career as a cook, working in restaurants in Norman and Tulsa and perfecting his highly praised culinary skills. He was always looking for new recipes that he could try, and he loved sharing his new creations with others.
As a single father, he spent several years self-employed before graduating in 2006 from OSU-OKC with a degree in nursing. Soon after stepping into the career he was made for, Randy exhibited an uncanny ability to connect with his patients. He took special pride in being a strong and positive paternal figure for the children he helped — creating very special bonds with them along the way. In his last venture in nursing, Randy devoted his strong work ethic and passion for helping others to a methadone clinic that helps those struggling in their own lives to receive the care they need. For the three months he worked at the clinic, he received “Employee of the Month” recognition multiple times.
Randy was preceded in death by his father Frederick Roger; brother Patrick Kenneth; sister Denise Irene; and niece Cara Nicole Fowler. He is survived by his mother Fern Anita; sister and brother-in-law Debbie and Craig Fowler; sister Vicki Heigele; brother and sister-in-law Michael and Trayce Fowler; sons Jason, Bailey, and Zac, and their partners Summer, Dolores, and Jackie; granddaughters Sadie and Charlie; and many cousins, extended family, and friends.
Randy’s service will be held at GO Church (2300 24th Ave SW, Norman, OK 73072) on Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. In place of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his honor to Able Recovery, the clinic where he spent his last months working to help others.
