Born on May 31, 1948, Sherry graduated with the Class of 1966 from Western Heights High School. While she never served in the military, her strength, loyalty, and unwavering devotion to her family made her a true hero to those who knew her best.
Sherry married the love of her life, Bobby R. Abbott, on April 2, 1974. They shared 44 years of wedded bliss before Bobby’s passing on August 3, 2018. Their love created a lasting legacy through their son, Matthew Abbott of Noble, Oklahoma.
Sherry’s happiest days were spent surrounded by her family — especially her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She found joy in birdwatching, casino hopping, cooking, traveling, watching romantic movies, and simply sharing laughter with the ones she loved most. Her favorite music, often filling the background of her days, came from Whitney Houston and her Pandora channel dedicated to Whitney and Cissy Houston. Her favorite color was light blue — a reflection of the gentle, calming presence she brought into every room.
Sherry’s lessons and love live on through her family. From teaching Matthew how to cook and balance a checkbook, to showing her grandchildren and great-grandchildren the importance of kindness, positivity, and being your authentic self (house slippers and all) — Sherry’s influence will never fade. Her house was more than just a home; it was a place of safety, laughter, and togetherness — even during Oklahoma storms. She also made really good homemade biscuits and gravy and she loved yellow hominy.
She is survived by her son, Matthew Abbott; her grandchildren: Zachary Abbott and spouse Taylor Medcalf, Pacience Sandlin, JP Abbott, Christian Abbott (deceased), and Harley Abbott; and her great-grandchildren: Kailey Medcalf, Fisher Abbott, Jaiden Medcalf, Hunter Abbott, Lakelynn Abbott, Aspen Medcalf, Ryker Dewitt, Bryson Dewitt, and Brooklynn Columbus. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews on the Abbott side who loved her dearly.
Sherry will be remembered most for her incredible heart — kind, caring, generous, and thoughtful — and her ability to make everyone feel seen, loved, and special. She was a bright light, a safe haven, and the beautiful soul at the center of a family who adored her.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Primrose Funeral Service. A celebration of Sherry’s life will take place on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at 10:00 AM, also at Primrose. She will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park in Norman, Oklahoma.
In honor of Sherry, we encourage you to wear something light blue, enjoy a romantic movie, or simply take a moment to laugh with those you love.
