Sue Laing left life on earth on August 9, 2014, ready to begin the next chapter of eternal life. We will celebrate with a memorial service at First Presbyterian Church, 7 p.m., Monday, August 11, 2014.
Nancy Sue Springer Laing was born April 5, 1938 to Harley and Helen Springer in Ft. Wayne, IN. She grew up in Ft. Wayne and attended Parkview Methodist School of Nursing there. After graduation, she married Michael Laing on August 8, 1959. Together they raised three wonderful children – Tim, Lisa and Ted. Their family was the light of her life. To add to her sunshine she now has seven GRANDCHILDREN. Sue worked in nursing from 1956 until 2003. After moving to Norman in 1979, she worked at the American Red Cross and Griffin Memorial Hospital. She found nursing both a challenge and a pleasure. After she retired in 2003, she did volunteer work at First Presbyterian Church, Norman Regional Hospital, and delivered for Meals on Wheels.
Sue loved people! She made a number of friends at the First Presbyterian Church, Beta Sigma Phi, her work and wherever she could find people to be with. She considered dogs “people” too. The family included four “Peppers.”
Mike and Sue were fortunate to be able to travel a lot and observe people of other cultures. We may differ on some of our beliefs but “people are just great throughout the entire world.”
Sue is survived by husband Mike, children Tim of Moore, OK, Lisa and Bobby Humphreys of Maryville, TN, Ted and Lucinda Laing of Frisco, TX., and two adopted daughters, Ursula Purcell and Cindy Updegraff, and grandchildren Matt and Sarah Laing of Moore, OK., Elizabeth, Catherine, Anna and Charlie Humphreys of Maryville, TN., Victoria Laing of Frisco, TX., and sister JoAnn and Harold Peacock of Fairfield Glade, TN., and a number of “favorite nieces and nephews”.
To all of my family and friends who added so very much to my life – THANK YOU! I loved you all. The memories and love will always be with you. In lieu of flowers, please give a gift to the charity of your choice.
