Suzanne Hines, beloved wife and mother, passed away on July 30, 2016, after a decades long battle with systemic lupus and recently with cancer. She was born on September 30, 1942 in Watonga, OK to Morris S. and Marie J. Lee.
Suzanne graduated high school in Tulsa, OK and attended Oklahoma State University before transferring to University of Oklahoma, graduating with a Home Economics degree. While at OU, she met and married the love of her life, Sam Hines, in 1964. After Sam’s graduation from OU School of Law, the couple moved to Houston, TX where they resided for the next 42 years.
Suzanne was a talented artist, winning awards for her china painting and was an officer of her chapter of the Porcelain Arts Club. She was a devout Christian and an active member of Second Baptist Church in Houston and attended Immanuel Baptist Church upon their move back to Norman. Her gentle wit, compassionate nature and warm personality endeared her to everyone she met.
Upon Sam’s retirement, Suzanne was happy to move back to Norman to be closer to her sister, Barbara J. McCampbell, Barbara’s family, and to her sister-in-law, Robbie Lamberson. Suzanne’s daughter, Kathy Hines, moved home to be her closest companion and caregiver in 2012.
Suzanne is survived by Sam, her husband of 52 years, her daughter, Kathy Hines, her sister, Barbara J. McCampbell and family, her sister-in-law, Robbie Lamberson and family, numerous nieces and nephews, and three spoiled dogs.
The family is most grateful for the compassionate and sensitive care provided by Loving Care Home Health and Hospice during the past seven months.
In order to help others, Suzanne felt strongly that her body be donated to science to further lupus and cancer research.
A memorial service will be held at a future date at Primrose Funeral Sevice. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the Lupus Foundation of America (www.lupus.org) at (202) 349-1176.
