With hearts full of love, we celebrate the life of Winifred Lorain Smith, known affectionately as Wendi, who passed peacefully on the morning of Saturday, June 21, 2025. Born on March 3, 1973, at Norfolk Naval Hospital in Virginia, Wendi brought light and warmth to everyone with her generous heart, unwavering kindness, and vibrant spirit.
Though she is no longer with us in body, the love she gave and the memories she created will live on forever in the hearts of her family and friends.
Wendi was the beloved daughter of Jackie Lee Smith and is preceded in death by Patricia Ann Wilson. As a young girl, she was a proud daddy’s girl, always eager to play and learn alongside her father, Jackie. Her intelligence shone bright from her early childhood, coming to Norman, and starting school in the 2nd grade. Wendi, at just six years old, raised baby turkeys and developed her love for animals.
Her childhood was full of adventure. After living briefly in Midwest City, Oklahoma, her family moved to Hawaii for three years before settling in Norman in 1979. It was there, on Kensington Street, that Wendi discovered her lifelong love for swimming pools and began creating the bonds with friends that would last a lifetime. A bit of a rebel in her dad’s eyes; she loved the movies, music, and, most of all, the people around her. She cheered for her school, but her true joy was found in friendship and connection. Her first job was at the family-owned Trophy Shop, and her first car, a Firebird with T-tops, became a symbol of her independent, spirited nature. Wendi graduated from Norman High School in 1990, proud and full of dreams.
After a semester at OCCC, Wendi found her true calling in real estate and mortgage, a career she began in 1998. She had a heart for helping others, and this translated beautifully into the way she guided her clients and supported her community.
Wendi became a devoted mother to son, Logan, born in 1999, and son, Noah, born in 2002. Wendi bought her first house with Jason Roundtree on Oakhollow Dr in 2001, marrying Jason in 2002. Her children were her world, she made sure their lives were full of love, laughter, and adventure. She created a home overflowing with joy and laughter. In 2008, Wendi accomplished her dream of living in a home with swimming pool, Winston Dr was the boy’s childhood home.
Wendi was the life of every gathering, a true social butterfly. She adored hosting friends and family, especially during OU football season, where she could be found tailgating and laughing with friends. She went back to school in 2011, always striving to grow and provide.
Her hobbies included spending time on her boat or jet ski, making jewelry, singing along to her favorite songs, and watching, or rewatching that is, ‘Back to the Future’.
She was a deeply loyal mother and friend and always put a smile on others faces. Wendi had a great sense of humor, likely inherited by her father Jackie, “She just loved and worshiped the ground I walked on,” he proudly says. Even her supposed ‘allergy’ to poodles (as Papaw likes to say) never stopped her from loving big (and owning 3 dogs…).
Wendi had a spark in her eye, a laugh that filled a room, a heart that held more love than most people could imagine, and beauty through and through. She was fierce, compassionate, and full of grace. Her memory lives on in the stories we tell, in the songs we play, and in the spaces, she filled so completely with joy and love. To know her was to be loved by her, and that is the legacy she leaves behind.
