Ricky Jason Masuskapoe was born in Edmonton November 12, 1991 to Gail and Rick. He made a huge entrance into this world weighing 9.5 pounds, had the chubbiest cheeks ever and the softest warmest brown eyes that when you met him you couldn’t help but fall instantly in love with him!
Ricky lived with as much ‘largeness’ for he loved everything about life and he lived it fully! Ricky was a great son, brother boyfriend, nephew, cousin, grandson and friend. When you met him you knew he was the ‘real deal’.
He really loved family gatherings and was most happy when he had everyone around him. Christmas was his favourite holiday because he always got spoiled and it was a time that all of us could gather together and enjoy being a family. He also loved camping and fishing with anyone that would go with him. He was looking so very forward to going camping this year with his cousins Stephanie, Chelsy and Sarah and couldn’t wait to go out to Aunty Ang and Uncle Dave’s lake to hang out with everyone.
Ricky loved to cook, Barbecue and go out for a good meal, no matter what the cost to the person with him eg mom, grandma, Lizann, Uncle Dave His favourite foods were his mom’s famous Cesar salad, poutine, Mcdonalds, Bonanza, bbq country morning burgers and Chicken from KFC. Aunty Mick remembers taking him to Bonanza and before they even got the food Rickys spitter was shooting spit all over the glass.
Ricky had many loves and one of them would be his beautiful girl cousins. He always talked about them and always made sure he spent the time with them so they would know how special they were to him. He also loved his boy cousins and would sit and play video games or pokemon with them and teach them the tricks to winning Halo. He would do anything for them and always seemed to be there for his younger cousins birthdays or special occasions. I know Ricky would want me to say Thank you Cousins for always loving me you were all important to me and I loved each of you very much!
Ricky loved his auntys and they knew it! Angie, Cheryl, Michielle and Dawn you were all very important to him. He always showered them with plenty of kisses, big bear hugs and funny stories. He liked hanging out with them and would often call or send a text just to say hey. He did get to have one last weekend in Winnipeg with Aunty Ang and Aunty Mick for his Cousin Stephanies wedding social where everyone had such a great time together. It is a weekend the auntys will never forget. Ricky got to introduce his lady love Lizann to everyone and Stephanie got to introduce her fiancé to all the cousins and auntys he had not yet met. They all feel blessed to have been part of that weekend.
Ricky had great admiration and love for all of his Uncles, Dave, Lorry, Dennis and Ernest each and everyone of them was a friend and father figure to him. He would always be asking for advice or just hang out with them and be one of the boys. His uncles will always remember him as being the boy in our family and we are all so very proud of the man he became. Uncle Lorry can remember the time they went golfing a Ricky cracked the club so hard on the ground it knocked the head off!! All he could say was “uh sorry uncle”
Ricky also loved his baby sisters Joscelin and Karly. He was so proud of them and they loved their big brother!!! Their little faces would always light up when they saw his big beautiful smile walk in and light up the room. He loved his brother Jacob even though he always said he didn’t get to see him enough he tried to be the best big brother he could be. Jacob, Ricky was very proud of you and he loved you and wished he had more time with you you have a family with us and we will always be here for you if ever you need us.
Ricky also had another brother Matthew and a sister Jordan, he did not get to spend a bunch of time on them but he loved them just the same with only the way a Ricky could love.
Ricky had found the love of his lifetime in his girlfriend and partner LizAnn. They were planning on moving to Saskatoon in August so Liz could attend University and they were planning their future together. With a Promise ring in hand and Rickys promise of protection they had hopes of a bright future together. Liz was the organized one and did a very fine job making Ricky save money for their move to Saskatoon and they were both very excited to start this journey together. Ricky was your average teenage boy but when he met you Lizann he became a Man and for that we thank you, you were his everything and the way he love you and the way you made him smile is something we are greatful for. Always know you were his baby, his love, his woman. We as a family have come to know you and love you deeply and you are now part of this family whether you like it or not.
Ricky adored his mother, he would always be telling her he loved her and always had to be around her. While living at home it was often that Gail would say “Ricky please leave me alone ok!” because he HAD to be wherever SHE was. He was so proud of you Gail and he knew how hard it was for you to raise him sometimes but we hope you know Ricky appreciated and Loved you for every second of doing it! And Look at the man you raised, he was something we could ALL be proud of he had that big easy smile, the best bear hugs ever, when he hugged you you KNEW you were feeling his LOVE for you, he had a heart of Gold and would fall easily into giggles and laughter. You did well with him Gail so be Proud of yourself for he was a great person. I know Ricky was happy for you and Dave and that he was so looking forward to walking you down the aisle when you get married but, he has left behind many men in his life that would be honored to do that on his behalf.
Ricky other lady love was his Grandma Marce, that kid would do anything for his grandma, he would try and pick her up with his hugs and would constantly be hanging onto her hand or kissing her. He always called her just to say he missed her and couldn’t wait for the family to get together again. He promised her that he was going to take everyone out for supper one day and HE was paying! He loved you so much Marce, you know that and you need to keep that close to your heart. Ricky would want you to hold onto this to get you through the next little while. Be proud of your boy he tried his best to be perfect for you.
Ricky lived a lot of his young life with his grandparents and often went to church where he did accept Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He knew who his God was and even though paths went astray on occasion we know once you are the Lords NOTHING can snatch you from his hand. His grandma was his rock for many years after his Grandpa Bob passed away. This was a loss the whole family still bears but Ricky in particular because Grandpa Bob was his father figure and his best friend. Ricky tried to be like his grandpa in many ways be it Vehicles, lots of friends and company, story telling and driving. Their bond was unbreakable and Ricky was with his Grandpa until the end. We take great comfort in knowing our men are together in Heaven once again taking care of each other and watching over us that were left behind.
Dave, you came into Rickys life when he was still a young impressionable boy of 10. You did your very best to instill morals, work ethic, and discipline. He loved you and grew even closer to you once he got a place of his own. You two became very good friends and we as a family want to thank you Dave for loving Ricky and raising him as your own and for helping him when he needed you most. He liked to tease you because you could ‘take it’ and he loved you for it. I know Ricky respected you and loved that you took great care of his mom and baby sisters.
Ricky was fortunate to have other grandma’s and adopted grandma’s. Grandma Terry, you were a part of Ricky and had that piece of a persons heart that is held only for Grandma. You should be very proud your grandson was a beautiful person. Grandma Lily, he adopted you as another grandma in his life and he loved your perogies!!! Hold the memory of his making them with you last time when you are feeling sad and you can be proud that he was a great brother to your grand babies.
Rick, you always had a special place in Ricky’s heart. Even though their was distance between you guys you were still his Dad and he did take everything you tried to teach him under consideration. Be proud of who your boy became because no matter what he turned out to be a wonderful man.
To Rickys aka MUFF’s friends, you guys were his world! He would always talk about how cool his friends were and how he loved spending time with each of you. All the laughs, talks, partys, and adventures are yours to treasure when you think of Ricky. Remember those times and he will always be with you in spirit and nothing can take that away from you. So Smile when you think of him MUFF wouldn’t want you to be sad he would want you to take what was best of him and love life like he did. He loved you guys and the family thanks you for being in his life, you are irreplaceable to us.
To all our loved ones that left before us Grandpa Bob, Uncle Bob, Grandpa Lawrence, Uncle John Wrench, Grandpa John, Grandma Agnes, Grandma Helen, Maggie Schneider, Uncle Larry, Felix Boyer, Baby Lars Gudmonson, Larry Kard, Larry Kard Jr and Granny Kathleen you all have been blessed with our angel Ricky please take care of our boy for he will be missed for always by us until we meet again.
Ricky loved camping with family and friends, he bought himself a two room tent with couches and a big bed, he set it up, then when he was done he sat on his blow up chair and had a beer. He called it his “man hut’. He was going to bring that camping this summer.
Ricky also loved road trips especially when he could drive his own vehicle and did one recently to Winnipeg with his mom, Liz, Grandma, Aunties and Cousins. Rick was a simple man, he didn’t have any luggage, he didn’t believe in suitcases and duffle bags. When we asked why? He said his Grandpa Bob never used suitcases plus garbage bags were cheaper!!!
When they pulled up to the hotel Rick had a garbage bag of clothes, a case of beer and Lizann’s Hello Kitty suitcase. It was the funniest thing ever!!! Aunty Mick remembers stopping at a gas station and Liz was sleeping in the back with her hello kitty blanket and Rick coming out with a small stuffed toy, he gently woke her and gave her the toy. It was such a sweet testament to how much he loved her.
They also stopped along side of the road so they could take the turn to Saskatoon where they all got to have their hugs, kisses and I love you’s. Had they know the hugs and kisses would have been held much longer. No one knew that would be the last time they would see their Ricky.
Where ever Ricky went there was always a trail left behind of his belongings, he knew mom, grandma or cousins would pick up after him, he was ‘the boy’ as his cousin Krissy would call him.
Ricky was very sensitive to his friends and family he loved hanging out with his buddys, having a few beers and fishing. When people met him they liked him right off the bat because he had such a good sense of humour, he loved to laugh and enjoyed life to its limits. He lived life to the fullest and lived for the moments he could cruise with his music and just drive. When he bought a new used vehicle he would put a loud stereo the subs that would be so loud it would rock his vehicle. Just the way he liked it!!
He liked to buy the newest in technology when he could afford it, iphone, ipod etc. He had so many friends on Facebook that when you went out for lunch with him his phone was constantly buzzing it was a good thing he could multi task.
Ricky tried his hand at many jobs, again like his Grandpa Bob, he started working at the age of 14 at My Friends Place restraint in Battleford. He was a dishwasher, Carlos and Suha took him under their wing to teach him good work ethic he had a lot of respect for both of them.
He then worked at the Gainsborough Riverside Hotel cooking at the steak pit, people loved the way he cooked their steaks. He also worked at the Cstore in Carnduff cooking, the Esso Gas Bar and later at Sunset concrete, he like that job because it was hard work and it was giving him muscles!! Advance drilling rig and finally Extreme Excavating where he was employed up until the day he passed away tragically Wednesday 16th, 2012
Ricky your our heart and when you left us you have taken a piece of each of us with you. Watch over all of us and ask God to send us the peace that surpasses all understanding to get us through this time with out you. Until we meet again bud… we love you.
