

Al was born December 7, 1928 in Deland, FL., son of the late Frank A. Harrison and the late Blanche Cauthen.
He graduated from Edmunds High School, Sumter, SC and Clevender College with a degree in accounting. Al served in the Air Force at Shaw Air Force Base then moved his family to North Charleston to work at the Charleston Air Force Base. He was a respected business owner for many years. Al was recognized by Governor Sanford as s leader in his community. The certificate of recognition read, “I have grown to know and expect his exemplary work, professionalism and devotion to public service. You capture the essence of a gentleman who considers it an honor and privilege to serve others, one who has touched countless lives along the way and one who has served his community with excellence.” Mayor Summey and North Charleston City Council recognized him and thanked him for his dedication and service to the city. He served on the Planning Commission, Citizens Advisory Council and Board of Zoning Adjustments. Mayor Joseph Riley Jr. requested that he serve as a co-chair of the committee for Managed Growth for Charleston County. This was an important leadership position that would substantially improve the quality of the life for future generations. Al participated in the new North Charleston Intermodal Transportation planning and groundbreaking ceremony. He was a charter member and trustee of Riverbend Baptist Church. He was involved with the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship, the Omar Shrine 32 Mason Scottish Rite and lifetime member of Hammerton Lodge 332. He was appointed to the CARTA Board from 1997-2023 serving several years as Secretary/Treasurer. Al was active in the Republican Party and worked as a poll manager. He was invited to Presidential and Governor inaugurations. He enjoyed spending time with his family, NASCAR racing, Gamecock football, fishing, boating and gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Carolyn Harrison; daughters, Lynn Christian (Gary) and Susan Harrison; grandchildren, Angela Jones (Jonathan), Shannon Ewald (Matthew) and William Liebenrood (Keri McCutcheon); great grandchildren, Adelai and Harlow Lawrence and Christian and Aria Jones and his caregiver, Alice Smith.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frank A. Harrison and Blanche Cauthen; sister, Marjorie Montalbano; daughters, Lisa Harrison and Patricia Liebenrood.
His burial will be private at Carolina Memorial Gardens.
