Throughout his career, A.W. earned a reputation as THE Master Brick Mason in Charleston, leaving behind a legacy of beautifully crafted structures that will stand as a testament to his skill and dedication for generations to come. Beyond his professional achievements, A.W. found solace and joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a green thumb and could often be found tending to his yard, cultivating vibrant gardens that brought beauty to his surroundings. A.W. also had a special fondness for Orange Soda, a refreshing indulgence that brought him delight on warm summer days.
A.W. leaves behind a legacy of love and inspiration that will be carried on by his devoted wife of 74 years, Mary Sue Scarborough Mizell, his three daughters – Wanda Chambers, Karen Summers, and Cherie Largent – and his two sons – Dennis Mizell and Derek Mizell. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, each of whom will forever cherish the memories they shared with their beloved patriarch.
A.W. was more than a skilled artisan; he was a devoted family man who cherished his roles as a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life, from the meticulous care he put into his work to the joy he found in spending time with his loved ones.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, from 10:30am until 11:00am, with a Celebration of Life Service to follow in the chapel starting at 11:00am.
