Charles was truly the heart of every room he entered, embodying the spirit of a dedicated public servant. He served on the Hanahan City Council for many years, taking great pride in calling Berkeley County his home. His steadfast support for the Hanahan Recreation Department was evident as he played an integral role on the planning team during the development of the recreation center.
Following his retirement from the paper mill, Charles continued to serve the community of Hanahan as the town bailiff. His commitment to the citizens was unwavering. When not serving, he could often be found at the ball field—whether as a player, coach, proud parent or Papa—his voice resonated among the crowd.
Charles cherished the moments spent with family and close friends above all else. In his younger days, he enjoyed time on the golf course, out on the water, and at the races. As he grew older, his greatest joy came from spending time with his girls, whether on the field, at the gym, or during family vacations.
His legacy of service, love, and community will remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He is survived by Louise W. Cox, his loving wife of 63 years, his daughter in law Janet Cox, his 3 granddaughters Keri Ballentine (Caleb), Chelsea Cox, and Ashley Hoffman (Hunter), and two great granddaughters Kaylee and Kinsley Ballentine. Anyone who had spoken to him recently knew he was also very proud to announce his granddaughter Ashley was expecting his newest great granddaughter in September.
He is preceded in death by his only son Charles “Kevin” Cox.
The Family would like to thank Roper Hospice for the great end of life care and comfort they provided and most importantly the family’s guardian angel Sharon M. Neal for everything she did for them during this difficult time.
