
Dorcas LaVerne Ramsey, formally of Charleston, SC, was called home on November 28, 2025. She was surrounded by her family at her home in The Village of Brookwood (TVOB) in Burlington, North Carolina.
She was 96, a span of years long enough to gather stories, soften sorrows, and spend time with family. Born on March 16, 1929 in Athens, TN to James Virgil Peters and Martha Elizabeth Hicks, as an only child Dorcas grew up with a steady sense of purpose and a heart that never hurried past the needs of others. She attended North Charleston High School before attending Harford Memorial Hospital School of Practical Nursing. She received her nursing cap in March of 1967. Dorcas enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, gardening and cross stitch. Upon moving to TVOB, everyone Dorcas met, she made sure she shared her love of living in Charleston! Dorcas was the wife to one, the mother of two, but best known as
Nan to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dorcas was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jet Ramsey, who remained her compass long after his passing.
Dorcas is survived by her 2 children, James (Jan) Ramsey of Newport, NC and Thomas (Kathy) Ramsey of Chapel Hill, NC. 6 Grandchildren- Marc (Sarah) Opdahl of Lake Stevens, WA; Allison Ramsey of Maryville, TN; Matthew (Julie) Ramsey of Newport, NC; Erin (Joseph) Tackett of Richlands, NC; Kathleen (Jeffrey) Venable of Snow Camp, NC and Joshua (Rebecca) Ramsey of Iron Station, NC. 20 Great- Grandchildren and 3 Great- Great- Grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 6th at Carolina Funeral Home and Gardens at 2pm with a burial at 3pm.
