

Eldon (Don) G. Elam died February 4, 2015 in Alexandria, Virginia. An Air Force Pilot in World War II, Don retired after 20 years of service. He worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as a Pilot and then as an officer responsible for Airline Accident Investigations from which he later retired. Born on April 14, 1922 in Parsons, Kansas Don was the son of Ernest G. & Lillian Jones Elam. He was predeceased by his first wife, Helen Adams, a brother, a sister and his daughter, Karen Amidon. He is survived by his wife, Joyce S. Elam, a son, Gene Elam, son-in-law Doug Amidon, three granddaughters, Ashley, Melissa, and Allison Amidon, two great grandchildren and stepchildren, Pam Lister, Michael Rhode and Randy Rhode. A graduate of Florida State University, Don was an avid reader and appreciated the value of educational pursuits. His hobbies were airplanes and sports cars. Graveside services will be conducted on February 10, 2015 at 10:00am at Carolina Memorial Gardens in Charleston, SC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to the National Alzheimer's Foundation.
