Ernest Ugalde Cortez (known to everyone as Ernie), was born in San Antonio, Texas on May 16, 1935. Ernie was a Saxophone player from the age of fifteen. He moved to Charleston in the sixties and had a band called “Blue Notes” for over 40 years. He met Mary Anne soon after arriving and they were married for 60 years. They raised two children, George and Lisa.
There never was a kinder man and he will be missed by everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Mary Anne, sister Anita Cuellar, and two brothers, Frank and Robert.

A Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm with burial to follow at Carolina Memorial Gardens. 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406.
