

He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force before moving on to be a Civil Service Fireman at the Naval Weapons Station. He retired after proudly working 28 years. After his retirement Ernie gained new passions in gardening and cooking. He became an excellent cook and his family will dearly miss his home cooked meals.
In addition to his mother, Ernie is survived by his wife, Eve Thomson Wood, three daughters, Denise (Johnny) Turner, of Aiken, Debbie (Chucky) Parrish, of Goose Creek, and Carrie (Levon) Hucks, of Summerville, a son , Joseph “Joey” Wood, of Panama City, FL, four brothers, Albert “Butch” Wood, David Wood, Frank Wood, and John Wood, and nine grandchildren.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Wood, and Richard “Dick” Wood.
The family will receive friends Monday evening, February 12, 2018 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Ave. in North Charleston.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 1:00 pm in the funeral home . Burial with Military Honors will follow in Carolina Memorial Park.
