Frances X. Taylor, age 87, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026.
Frances was born on April 7, 1938, in Buffalo, New York, to the late Charles Marion Lanford and Frances Alice Hylant Lanford. She lived a life defined by devotion to her family, faith, and community.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Austin Taylor, and her daughter, Elizabeth Susan Prater.
Frances is lovingly remembered by her children: Willis Prater; Keran Fields (Frank); and Sandra Merritt (Samuel). She was a proud and devoted grandmother to six grandchildren: Tiffany Hyatt (Josh), Eric Blackman (Nema), Samantha McGowan (Kentwan), Clay Merritt, Taylor Stewart, and Reagan Paiva (Matt). Her legacy continues through her 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy.
Frances dedicated many years of her professional life to the telecommunications industry, beginning her career as an operator and later advancing into sales with BellSouth and AT&T. She was known for her strong work ethic and her ability to connect with people.
Outside of work, Frances had a deep love for creativity and craftsmanship. She enjoyed many hands-on hobbies including ceramic molding, sewing, quilting, and knitting. These passions led her to become actively involved in local crafting clubs where she shared her talents and built lasting friendships.
Frances also gave generously of her time to her community. She faithfully volunteered during election seasons, working the voting polls and eventually serving as a poll manager. Her commitment to civic service reflected her belief in contributing to the well-being of her community.
A woman of strong faith, Frances was a devout Catholic and a longtime member of the Church of the Nativity on James Island, South Carolina, where she found comfort, fellowship, and spiritual guidance.
Frances will be remembered for her loving heart, creative spirit, and the deep care she showed for her family and community. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and devotion that will continue to live on in the many lives she touched.
