

George is survived by his wife of 60 years, Julia Colado Holt of Hanahan, SC and also by his four children: son, George E. Holt Jr. of Charleston SC, son Robert Holt and his wife Gwyneth of Houston, TX, daughter, Julia M. Johnson of Charleston, SC and son, William J. Holt of Hanahan, SC. George is also survived by his two grandsons: Julian K. Johnson and Eric A. Johnson, both of Charleston, SC, and many other beloved family members that are living in Charleston, SC and in several states across our great nation.
George was born on September 18, 1927 in Finley, Tennessee to William and Lura J. Holt. He joined the Merchant Marines at age 17, so that he could serve in WWII. After the war, he finished business school and began a career in retail. When the Korean War started, he answered the call to serve again, this time enlisting in the U.S. Navy. George served for 27 years, taking his family overseas with him, so that his children could see the world. He retired in 1977 with the distinguished rank of Master Chief. Within three years of retirement, George and his wife opened Homes Realty in Goose Creek, SC and embarked on a successful 30 year career in real estate.
George had a charming and cheerful disposition. He was patient, loyal, and always rooted for the underdog. Above all, George loved our nation and he lived his life as a patriot.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, July 1, 2018 from 6pm – 8pm at Carolina Memorial Funeral Park in North Charleston. A funeral mass is scheduled for Monday, July 2, 2018 at 10am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Goose Creek, immediately followed by the burial service at Carolina Memorial Gardens in North Charleston. A reception will follow at his family home in Hanahan. All are welcome to attend and celebrate George's life.
