Dad wanted this to be time of celebration, so the hours before his homecoming were spent listening to his favorite scriptures, hymns and songs, which include "Don't Worry, Be Happy" and "I can only imagine". After his long and courageous battle with IPF (Ideopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis), Jerry peacefully left the warm and loving embrace of his daughters to spend eternity with our Savior and join his late wife of 50 years Margarette "Maggie" Stickney in Heaven.
Jerry was born on September 27, 1940 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and was the son of his late parents, Sigrid and David F. Stickney. He has joined his brother, Jimmy Stickney who preceded him in death, he is survived by his siblings, George Stickney, David Stickney, Diane Hanson and Debbie Krotzer.
Jerry leaves behind precious memories that will be shared by his daughters, Laura Daniel and Paula Curtis, their husbands, Nathan Daniel and Tony Curtis, his four grandchildren, Nathan "Matthew" Daniel, Hailey Daniel, Kariann Smith and Hanna Curtis, and a very special great-granddaughter, "Sissy Girl" Kathryn Alease Daniel-Hammer and his church family at Tall Pines Baptist Church. Dad was known as "Boy Nana" to his grandchildren and great-granddaughter.
Our dad was a veteran who served in the Navy as a sonar technician and retired from the Naval Shipyard. He was a faithful servant who was a cheerful giver of his time and tithes, and served as Church secretary for Tall Pines Baptist Church, as well as a Deacon, Men's Sunday school teacher, Vacation Bible school volunteer and choir member. He always prayed for his family's salvation and was not afraid to share God's love with family, friends, and strangers. No matter who he spoke with, he always closed with "Have a Blessed Day". Dad was an avid golfer whose passion began while working as a caddy at the golf club in Minneapolis and associated his caddy experience with the movie "Caddyshack". In 2017, Dad participated in the PGA Hope event for disabled veterans and was the first one who golfed with an oxygen unit. For anyone who has played the game with Jerry, they know his golf swing was quite impressive!
Jerry's homecoming celebration will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday July 1, 2018 at Tall Pines Baptist Church. The family will welcome friends at 2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service. The committal service will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. Afterwards, family and friends are invited to return to Tall Pines Baptist Church to enjoy a family-style dinner and share special memories.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Tall Pines Baptist Church's, "Raise the Roof" campaign in Jerry Stickney's memory. A plaque with the names of the contributors will be placed in the church's sanctuary.
Dad, we love you so much and we will miss you dearly until we see you again in Heaven.
