Mrs. Gladys S. Williams, 90, of Hanahan, South Carolina went home to be with her Heavenly Father on March 3, 2016. She was born on March 28,1925 in Gretna, VA. Mrs. Williams is survived by her three sons, Walter Williams, Joseph Williams, and Donald Williams and two brothers, Carroll Short and Vernon Short, both of California. Mrs. Williams was a strong protector of her children while her husband, a WWII and Air Force veteran Jesse Earl Williams, was serving in remote assignments. In addition to her three devoted and loving sons she is survived by 9 dearly loved grandchildren and one great grandchild. Known as “Meme” to her grandchildren, she filled their lives with so much love that it overflowed and she was always quick to make sure her Meme bread and award winning maple nut fudge was overflowing as well. Mrs. Williams was a faithful servant to her church for over 40 years, Charleston First Church of the Nazarene in Hanahan. She led a multitude of Sunday school classes and participated in many church leadership positions. One of her greatest joys in life was filling a table with mouth watering desserts and serving love in a ladle through constant conversation. Due to her husband’s military career, Mrs. Williams followed him to duty assignments in Bermuda, Hawaii, Nebraska, Massachusetts and ultimately retiring in Charleston, SC. She will be sorely missed but we are comforted knowing she is dancing in Heaven with Christ and the loved ones she’s missed for so long. This Earth is just a temporary home. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 6, from 1-2 PM at Carolina Memorial Home, 7113 Rivers Avenue, N. Charleston. Funeral services will be held following the visitation on Sunday at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Charleston First Church of the Nazarene, 1055 Yeamans Hall Road, Hanahan, SC 29410.
