Jim was born in Chicago, IL on January 6,1969 to Charles and Susan Dahl. He grew up in Bolingbrook, IL where he played youth soccer for many years, but he was an academic at heart. In high school, he was a prominent member of the math and engineering teams. He was the first member of the family to complete a college degree, earning a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Bradley University. His true passion was for computers, from the first Commodore 64 he taught himself on to his years of professional experience with Bechtel Marine Propulsion, he was always learning, tinkering and working with computers.
Although he only intended to stay for two years, Jim found his home and raised his family in Mt. Pleasant, SC. In his professional life, he was well-respected. He earned several awards and distinctions, including the BMPC Achievement Award, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory Achievement Award, and the US Navy Civilian Service Commendation Medal. Outside of his professional life, Jim was a loving family man. Spending time coaching his kids’ sports teams, building furniture for the house, and taking family vacations. He was the driver in the relationship while Kathy planned the trips. This relationship led the family to 49 US States, Canada, and the Bahamas. They enjoyed seeing the national parks and the wildlife that lived there. Jim and Kathy also enjoyed their morning walks together, watching the sunrises, sunsets, and egrets that lived by sound. Kathy identified the scenes, and Jim took the photos.
Jim was both electrically and mechanically inclined. He was the family mechanic, including his pride and joy, his 1991 Pontiac Firebird that he loved to take Kathy around in. He loved Chicago sports and was always rooting for the Bears and Cubs, even though the house was divided, as Kathy is an avid Steelers fan. He was a member of Saint Benedict Catholic Church and attended Mass regularly on Sundays.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Dahl; his children, Joshua Dahl and Colleen Dahl; his brother, Christopher Charles Dahl; his sister, Julie Ann Dahl; nephew, Evan and niece Alexis. Jim is predeceased by his parents, Charles James Dahl and Susan Marie Dahl; stepfather, Dominic DiCianni; his grandparents, Charles John Dahl and Irene B. Dahl and Edward Parker Trowbridge and Therese Marie Trowbridge
Jim was an incredible husband, father, brother and friend who will be missed by so many. Next time you order dessert, consider German chocolate cake as it was his favorite.
