John Calvin Stanfield, 83, passed away on August 28 in his home surrounded by loved ones. Since Thursday his family had visited and wished him well. He was greeted at the Gates of Heaven by the love of his life Mary Stanfield, his daughter, Cary (Coonie) Wilson, and his parents Daisy and Kisler Stanfield. He leaves behind four children, Emilie, Yvonne (Johnnie), John Jr., and Kevin Stanfield along with eight grandchildren. He was proceded in death by two brothers and six half-sisters.
John was born in Sumter SC, served in the US Navy for 8 years, and dutifully retired from the Charleston Naval Ship Yard after 35 years. In the years since Mary departed this world, John was able to enjoy camping and traveled in his RV and attended weekly auctions with his brother Ken Stanfield.
When asked what kept him going in his last six months on Earth, he said his family. In his last days, he spoke of Mary and his mother waiting for him. John leaves this world a better place by instilling hard work, deep compassion and true love into his surviving family members.
There will be a private burial in the future.
