

Lisa Elaina Hinson, born on May 2, 1952, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late John Corbit II and Novelette Hinson, was a beacon of love and dedication. Raised in Berlin, NJ, Lisa spent her life enriching the lives of those around her. On June 13, 2024, she departed this earthly life, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and service.
Lisa graduated Edgewood Regional High School, Atco NJ in 1970. She earned her BS in Biology/Secondary Education from Cheyney University, cultivating a passion for knowledge and teaching. She served as the Community Relations Director at Osseo Area School District 279 in Minneapolis, MN for 13 years, dedicating herself to fostering connections and bridging gaps within the community. Her work touched countless lives, making her a beloved figure among all who knew her.
One of Lisa's notable achievements was her involvement in the mid-1990s project called Origins, based on the Archie Givens Collection of African American Literature. She collaborated with educators to deliver impactful training in the Minneapolis/St. Paul MN Area School Districts. She also played a vital role in the Solar Ovens Society, assisting with journalism and publication for the nonprofit dedicated to providing solar ovens to Third-World countries.
Lisa founded her own public relations firm, Lisa Hinson and Associates, inspiring the creation of the African American Academy for Accelerated Learning (AAAL), which taught children about African history and culture.
Her faith and love in Christ guided her throughout her life’s journey, evident in her daily acts as God's servant. She was a vigilant advocate for her family and friends, ensuring they were supported and loved. Lisa had a profound love for worship music and faith-based movies, finding peace and inspiration in them. She was active in community theater, The Lord's Table Dinner Theater, and served as a praise and worship singer at her church, New Life Christian Center, now known as Jesus People.
She married Joe Lee Hunter in December 1989, and to that union gave birth to her beautiful daughter, Amandla Novelette Hunter. Lisa is preceded in death, by her parents and her brothers, George H. Hinson, and John Corbitt Hinson III. Her memory will forever be cherished by her daughter, Amandla Novelette Hunter of Minneapolis, MN, her brother, Frank L. Hinson of Elizabeth City, NC and sister-in-law Linda D. Hinson of Summerville, SC, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends.
We will forever cherish Lisa’s angelic singing. Her beautiful glowing smile and effervescent personality will be deeply missed. Lisa's enduring spirit, compassion, and dedication to others will never be forgotten. Her faith, love for her family and friends, and commitment to her community have left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She remains a cherished presence in the hearts of those fortunate enough to know and love her.
