

Martha Berry Y. Godley, 84 years of age, died 27 Dec 2014 in Trident Medical Hospital. Martha was born Jan 24, 1930 in Rome Ga. The youngest of 7 children of the late Grace M McGlaughlin Keim and Clyde B Keim, a professor of music at Martha Berry College, Rome GA. at the time of her birth. Martha and her mother moved to Athens GA in 1933 where she grew up and graduated from Athens High School. She married Tom Yarbrough and left Athens. After their divorce, she moved to Hanahan SC in 1959 and started working for Woodrow Bessinger at the Piggy Park Barbeque drive-in where she met Charles Godley. They were married in 1962 and she left Piggy Park. In 1964 she went to work in the office of Fitts & Dandridge General Contracting Company where she stayed until 1976. In 1976 she and her youngest daughter, Charlene Lee left with her husband Charles, who was a Union Electrician and they traveled this country for over 16 years, missing only 9 states. After Charles’s death in 1992, she settled in Summerville SC. She started Bowling at Sandpiper Bowling Lanes, where she was a member of a number of Leagues. She loved the game and the people. She also stayed busy with Ceramics at Daisy’s. She was a Charter member of Knightsville Baptist Church. She worked with Rev Frank Ware, Richard Belton, Kenneth McNair and others to get into the present building on Central Ave. She always said “God didn’t make me a millionaire in dollars but he did give me a million in my 6 wonderful, loving children.” She was a loving, devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. She would talk about and brag about her children, grands and great-grands to anyone that would listen. Other than her parents, she is preceded in death by her former husband Tom Junior Yarbrough Sr, and her husband of almost 30 years, Charles Leland Godley. She is also preceded in death by her 2 sisters Lenore Walker and LaVonne Young, and 3 of her brothers, Dr Gerald Keim, Ralph D. Keim, & Don P. Keim and by her grandson Arthur Hammond Chavis. She is survived by her 6 children: Freda Y. (Gene) Parker of Jacksonville FL, June Y (Edward) Weeks of Bonaire GA, Tom (Miriam) Yarbrough, Jr. of Hartsville SC, Jenny Y Anderson of Mt Airy NC, Larry Yarbrough of Raleigh NC, and Charlene Lee G. (Justin) Lord of Summerville SC. Her 12 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren, Her brother, Bob Keim of Mesa, AZ, Sister in laws, Edna Keim of Coats NC, Alice Keim of Niceville FL, Virginia Tomlinson of Jesup GA and Mae Wright of Timmonsville SC.
