

NORTH CHARLESTON - Miguela “Meg” S. Lim, wife of Alfonso T. Lim, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at her home in North Charleston, South Carolina on Wednesday morning, June 22, 2016 at the age of 81 of complications from pancreatic cancer. Born on May 8, 1935, in San Quintin, Pangasinan, Philippines, Meg was a daughter of the late Rufino Saruca and the late Saturnina Tecson Saruca and was the fifth of six siblings. Her last birthday also coincided with her last Mother's Day 2016. She earned her medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas - The Catholic University of the Philippines in Manila. She served over 20 years at the Medical University of South Carolina as a physician and associate professor in the Obstetrics/Gynecology Department. She also worked in the Medical Records Department until a minor stroke prompted her retirement in 1995. Al's United States Navy career took their young family from his duty station at NAS Barbers Point in Honolulu, Hawaii to Charleston Naval Base in August 1966. Meg was an active member of the Province of Pangasinan Association of South Carolina, especially singing in choir performances for local nursing homes and private residences during the Christmas season and the organization's annual Our Lady of Manaog Fiesta each May. In addition, she also served as a past President of the Filipino-American Association of Charleston.. She faithfully prayed the rosary every day. It was this strong faith in Jesus Christ that carried her throughout her life and particularly in the last days of her illness. Meg loved her family unconditionally. She is survived by the childhood sweetheart who would later become her beloved husband of 58 years, Alfonso T. Lim of North Charleston, SC. She will be greatly missed by their two sons and one daughter: Dr. Alan Lim and wife Eva of St. Johns, FL; Mary Alison Lim Posadas of North Charleston, SC; and Arnold Lim and wife Janet of Indialantic, FL. Meg adored and was so proud of her seven grandchildren: Armand, Adrienne and Astrid Lim; Cameron and Dalton Posadas; Andrew and Arick Lim. She is survived by two sisters: Julita S. Aguirre and Susana S. Romero, both of the Philippines; 2 cousins: Dr. Angelito “Litong” Tecson and wife Ellen of Orange Park, FL and Sabino “Didong” Tecson and wife Imelda of Virginia Beach, VA. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, two brothers and two half-brothers from her mother's first marriage. The family would like to thank everyone for their friendship, love, support and prayers and to express heartfelt appreciation to the doctors and nurses of Roper St. Francis Hospital and the Medical University of South Carolina, Dr. Matthew Beldner & staff of Low Country Hematology and Oncology, and the wonderful caregivers of Piedmont Hospice for their compassionate assistance during Meg's final weeks: Tashika Gibbs, CNA; Mary Ashe, CNA; Greer Tighe, RN; and Carrie Dorris, BC/MSW Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM Monday, June 27, 2016, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 6650 Dorchester Road, North Charleston, SC, with the Reverend Fr. Marreddy Allam officiating. The Rite of Committal will follow at Carolina Memorial Park, Funerals and Cremations, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC. Afterwards, there will be a gathering of family and friends in Lofton Hall at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. The family will receive friends between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM Sunday, with the Rosary at 7:15 PM, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home.
