Born on July 6, 1934, in North Charleston, South Carolina, Patricia was the daughter of Rufus I. Reeves of Cottageville and Johnnie Agnes Stokes Reeves of Branchville. She was a proud graduate of North Charleston High School and was deeply rooted in her Christian faith as a Southern Baptist. Patricia was an active member of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Summerville, SC, where she cherished the fellowship of her church family. Patricia's love for the Lord was evident in her every action, and she carried that love into all areas of her life. A lover of country music and dancing, she enjoyed life to the fullest, always sharing joy and warmth with those around her. Her culinary skills were legendary—she made the hottest chicken wings and the best macaroni and cheese. Patricia’s sense of humor and kindness will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. In addition to her devotion to her faith and family, Patricia was also a proud member of the VFW, supporting and honoring veterans with her time and heart.
Patricia is survived by her beloved daughter, Evelyn O’Bier Ward (husband Hank) of Jedburg, South Carolina. She leaves behind five generations, including seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, two sisters, many nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom will miss her dearly.
Patricia was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Gerald Thomas "Jerry" Laity; her son, John Douglas O’Bier; and her daughter, Patricia O’Bier Ackerman.
A visitation for family and friends will be held at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406, on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
