Patsy Hughes Mizell

Patsy Williams Hughes Mizell Patsy Williams Hughes Mizell, 85, of North Charleston, SC entered into eternal rest on November 1, 2016 after a long battle with ovarian cancer. Patsy was born in Ft. Worth, Texas, a daughter of the late Ollie Edward Williams and Eva Lou Law. She moved to Charleston in 1940 and graduated from Chicora High School with the class of 1951. Since that time she has been part of a group of high school friends that met monthly. They affectionately referred to themselves as the “Old Timers.” life-long Christian and Sunday School teacher for many years, Patsy currently was a member of Cooper River Baptist Church. Patsy was a passionate civil servant, having participated in local government most of her life, first as a commissioner for Public Works in what was the North Charleston Public Service District and then on North Charleston City Council for 21 years, from 1974-1995. Mrs. Mizell was preceded in death by her brother and two sisters, as well as her first husband, Francis M. Hughes, Sr., after 49 years of marriage. Surviving are her husband Henry Mizell, children; Pamela Fowler (Michael) of Hanahan, Emma Plate (Jay Pope) of Hanahan, and Francis M. “Monty” Hughes, Jr. (Dana) of Chapel Hill, NC. Step children: John Mizell (Penny) of Ravenell, Kathleen Collins of Crossville, TN, and Samuel Mizell (Rebecca) of Nashville, TN. Grandchildren; Amanda Reeder (Robbie), Juliee Boatwright, Whitney Engel (Sam), Alyssa Hughes, Luke Hughes, Jake Hughes, Jonathan Mizell, David Collins (Caroline), Stephen Collins (Kim), Winter Mizell, Mazie Mizell. Great Grandchildren; Trey Reeder, Emilee Reeder, Katelynn Reeder and coming February 2017 Baby Mae Engel. Visitation with family will be held at noon and the service will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Cooper River Baptist Church, 1059 Crawford St. N. Charleston, SC. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cooper River Baptist Church or Hospice of Charleston.
