He was born in Opa-Locka, FL to Henry and Alice Tillis.
Richard served with honor in the United States Navy before embarking on a 34-year career as a supervisor at Georgia Pacific, retiring in 2000. He and his wife were devoted members of Riverbluff Baptist Church of North Charleston, and Richard's life was filled with diverse interests and hobbies. He enjoyed fishing, watching NASCAR, and tinkering with model planes, cars, and trains. He loved gardening, grilling out, and traveling to Tennessee and North Carolina, all which brought him great joy and memories. Richard also found delight in his later years constructing with the ever-popular, structure building blocks, LEGOs.
Richard was preceded in death earlier this year by his beloved wife, Billie Tillis, whom he has now joined in eternal reunion.
Family and friends are invited to attend a graveside service to honor Richard on Thursday, June 20, 2024, at 12:30pm at Carolina Memorial Park, located at 7113 Rivers Avenue, N. Charleston, SC 29406
