Virginia Rakes

Virginia Mae Rose Rakes, beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend, passed away on Monday, September 1, 2025 at the age of 92. Born on May 25, 1933 in Clintwood, Virginia. She was a woman of faith, love, and kindness.

Virginia was the center of the family, a devoted wife and loving mother. She lived her life dedicated to God, her family and friends. She was a member of St. Andrews Parish United Methodist Church. Virginia retired from Charleston County School District and was a member of SC School Food Service Association. Known for her love of family the mountains, tending to her flowers, and love of animals.

She is survived by her children, Mickey Rakes (Mary) and Angela; her grandchildren, Jenny Fogle (Danny) and Rebecca Kinne (Bobby) and her great grandchildren, Micah Kinne and Evelyn Kinne; She is preceded in death by her loving husband Grover Clayton Rakes; her father Auty Rose and mother, Hattie Rose.

A funeral service to celebrate Virginia’s life will be held on September 10, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Andrews Parish United Methodist Church, 3225 Ashley River Rd., Charleston, SC 29414 (visitation will be prior to the funeral, from 12:00 pm. to 1:00 pm). Burial at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Rd., Charleston, SC 29414. Arrangements cared for by Carolina Memorial Gardens, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrews Parish United Methodist.
