

Vivian Shirley Vandiver, age 92 of Hanahan, S.C. died Monday, January 25, 2016 at Summit Place on Daniel Island, Charleston, SC. She was born in Jefferson, Georgia on May 17, 1923 to the late Opal P. Shirley and Lena Mae Turner Shirley. She was married for 67 years to her high school sweetheart, Col. William H. Vandiver, Jr who was a retired Colonel in the US Army Reserve and a retired Brigadier General in the South Carolina National Guard Officers Reserve Association. She was employed by the Charleston County School District at the former Morninside Elementary School and was a member of the Hanahan chapter of KAPPA KAPPA IOTA. She was a founding member of the Highland Park Baptist Church in Hanahan in 1958, was a Sunday School teacher for over 33 years and was active in church life for over 60 years. Her love of her church and church family was a guiding cornerstone of her life. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Vandiver of Gainesville, GA; her son, William H. Vandiver, III of Charleston, SC; and sister, Ruth Brown of Griffin, Georgia The family would like to sincerely express their appreciation to the caring and attentive staff of Summit Place of Daniel Island, SC and Piedmont Hospice. Funeral services will be held at the Highland Park Baptist Church in Hanahan, SC on Friday, January 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m.. Visitation will be held at the Highland Park Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her memory may be made to the Connie Maxwell Children's Home, P.O.
