Skip was educated in the public schools of Pennsylvania. After graduating, he attended Youngstown State University on football and basketball scholarships. He later honorably served his country in the United States Army.
Following his discharge from the Army, Skip married the love of his life, Marilyn Johns, on March 26, 1960. Their union was one of devotion, partnership, and enduring love.
Skip began his career with the United States Postal Service and later retired from General Motors Corporation as Plant Security in 1994, after 25 years of dedicated service.
Skip was a kind, generous, thoughtful, graceful, and loving man. He had a lifelong passion for sports especially football and basketball-and as he got older, he became an avid tennis and golf player. Above all else, Skip cherished his wife Marilyn, his children, grandchildren, and his entire family.
Skip fought a good fight. On Friday, January 23, 2026, God called him home and granted him eternal rest.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Anna Mae Glears.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of sixty-six years, Marilyn Glears; two sons, Kevin Coleman Glears, Sr. (Lawanda Gail) and Eric Todd Glears (Angela); sister-in-law, Carolyn Barnes (George); Grandchildren, Lauren, Alexis, Kevin Jr., and Ashley Glears; Great-grandchildren, Christian and Journee Stafford; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
There will be a memorial service on Friday, January 30, 2026, 11 am at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, 7113 Rivers Ave. North Charleston.
