An angel on earth, Barbara (Halat) Trinchero, 79 years old, earned her heavenly wings on May 24, 2022 after a valiant struggle with cancer. A longtime resident of Burbank, Barbara gave selflessly and unconditionally to her family, friends, church, and community.
Born September 11, 1942 in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Barbara was the oldest daughter to Nora and Rudy Halat. Barbara attended nursing school at the Provincial Mental Hospital where she met lifelong friends and earned her certification in psychiatric registered nursing. In 1965, a recruiter convinced Barbara to move to sunny Los Angeles, California.
Barbara worked as a psychiatric registered nurse for Los Angeles County Medical Center, eventually becoming head nurse of a crisis adolescent ward. In 1968, she married the love of her life Bart Trinchero, and they welcomed son Brian and daughter Beth. The family traveled on weekends to local lakes for boating trips and each summer to visit family.
After leaving the hospital setting, Barbara worked for outpatient programs in the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health. Among her coworkers, she was known for her patience, generosity, and potluck dishes. In 2004, Barbara retired after working for Los Angeles County for 38 years.
In retirement, Barbara dedicated time to St. Francis Xavier church, where she volunteered as a bereavement minister and served on the Peace and Justice committee. Proudly, she was inducted as a member of the Holy Faith Sisters. Barbara also volunteered weekly at the Burbank Temporary Aid Center. An amazing grandmother, she devoted time to raising her grandchildren. Barbara enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling, playing cards, and cheering for her favorite team, the Los Angeles Dodgers.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years Bart, brother Lou (Barb) Halat, son Brian (Tana), daughter Beth (Juan), and two grandchildren Mateo and Valentina. Barbara’s motto was “No Bad Days.” She lived each day to the fullest and she served God by giving to others every moment she could.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
~Amen~
