David was born on January 6th to Hilaria and Santos Silva. David had two brothers, Ray and Robert, and a daughter, Stephanie, all of whom are now home with the Lord. He is survived by his wife Lorena, son Brian, grandson Kaiden, and his three sisters: Rosalie, Jennie, and Mary.
David enjoyed life and being active in various activities. He loved taking road trips up the coast and often mentioned that he one day wanted us to move near the beach. He enjoyed watching NFL games and it soon became a shared interest between us as he taught me to not only understand the game but to enjoy the game. He liked riding his Harley Davison motorcycle until he was no longer able to. David found joy intending to his garden as he would spend hours immersed in it. Dining out, whether with family, friends, or by himself, was another one of his favorite pastimes. These food trips were incredibly important as he would always mark his calendar for these outings and remind me there was no need for me to leave lunch for him when he went out to eat.
David came to know Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a very young age. He grew up having a strong foundation for his Christian life.
At church, David enjoyed serving as an usher, singing in the choir, and teaching Sunday School. One of his biggest passions was serving in the Good News Club. He was a part of this ministry for the last 13 years. In the Good News Club, his responsibilities varied from purchasing snacks for the children to teaching the memory verse or the Bible lesson. He was incredibly diligent in keeping track of what snacks had been given out to ensure the children received a variety of snacks. I always knew when he was going to be teaching because I would come home from work and find our living room walls filled with taped up visuals for the memory verse or Bible lessons. With immense joy David would share with me how the children at the Good News Club had accepted the Lord as their Savior.
David served the Lord with all his heart. It did not matter what he was doing to serve the Lord because he did as Colossians 3:23 says “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”
Often, I would see David reading his Bible and listening to the classic gospel hymns. I witnessed how David experienced God’s presence. During the last two weeks that he was here with us, he would ask me to read the Bible and play worship music for him as it would provide him with peace.
David trusted the Lord with all his heart. When he faced a health issue, he held on to God’s promises. One of these promises in particular is found in Joshua 1:5 “I will never leave you or forsake you.” During these times he was quick to remind me of the following “We do not know what tomorrow holds but we know who holds tomorrow”
As I look back on the health issues that David went through, I can say that I witnessed the Lord’s faithfulness over his life. Through all that David went through, his faith never wavered. He never questioned God. He never became angry or bitter about his physical condition. He would tell me not to worry or cry because in heaven he would be whole and complete.
Even though I miss David very much, my heart knew he was ready to go home to be with the Lord. I will remind myself that my loss is Heaven’s gain. I will continue to hold on to God’s promise that “He will never leave me or forsake me.”
David, I will always be grateful for our Love Story. Thank you for loving me the way you did. My love, you have finished the race. I find peace and comfort knowing that you are rejoicing in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Till we meet again my sweet Love.
