Gene was the son of the late Doo T. and Helen L. (Henry) Yee. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired X-Ray technician for Boston City Hospital.
As a devout Catholic, Gene’s faith was foremost in his life.
Gene was a film buff and especially loved westerns. He excelled in any game in which he played, such as chess. When he was in a bowling league, he rolled mostly strikes and an occasional spare. Gene enjoyed singing and dancing from an early age. As a teenager, he won several dance contests. He loved doo wop, oldies, and soul music. Over the years, he attended the Newport Jazz Festival, several Grammy Awards Ceremonies and after parties, and many concerts with his three siblings.
Gene had a flair for dressing and had meticulous taste and style. Born under the sign of Taurus, he was well organized and efficient. He was thoughtful, generous and had a unique sense of humor.
As the firstborn son, Gene had a special bond with his mother, Helen. He was often mistaken as twins with his sister Linda when they were growing up. And, in those days, he was the leader of the pack of the children in their neighborhood.
Gene was best friends, constant companion, and partner in all things with his brother Leo. They shared a lifetime of adventures, too numerous to mention.
Gene will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his sister Linda Yee, his brother, Leo Yee, and youngest sister and Godchild, Kimberly Yee (all of Van Nuys, CA), his nephew and nephew's wife, Richard and Rachel Rogers, and their children, Gene’s Grandniece Jordan Rogers and Grandnephew Xander Rogers (all of Los Angeles, CA), several friends, wonderful cousins, and dear friend, Ray Soltren of New Bedford, MA.
A rosary will be said on the day of the Viewing, and the following day a Funeral Mass and burial will be held, all at Pierce Brothers Valhalla in North Hollywood, CA.
A visitation for Gene will be held Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Pierce Brothers Valhalla, 10621 Victory Blvd, North Hollywood, CA 91606. A funeral service will occur Friday, January 5, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 10621 Victory Blvd, North Hollywood, CA 91606.
