Mark Gregory Minor
November 11, 1950 – July 19, 2025
Mark Gregory Minor, 74, went home to be with the Lord on July 19, 2025, after a long and valiant battle with cancer.
Mark was born on November 11, 1950, in Rock Springs Wyoming, to Vernon and Gail Minor. He graduated from Temple City High School in 1968 and proudly claimed to have never lost a chess game during his senior year. He went on to earn a bachelor's degree in biology from California State University, Long Beach, in 1972.
Mark spent most of his professional career working for John Hancock, Prudential, and Allstate Insurance agencies. He earned his Chartered Financial Consultant designation from The American College in Bryn Mawr, PA, and was a Registered Principal for Prudential Securities. Mark led many sales teams and specialized in hiring, training, and coaching. His colleagues will fondly remember his love of chess and his endless repertoire of “dad jokes”.
Mark has a daughter, Marissa Michelle Cardwell, from his first marriage to Marguerite Minor (née Walker). He and Marissa shared many special father-daughter adventures, including working on science projects, watching slapstick comedy movies, and arcade outings where they saved up thousands of prize tickets. Mark was a constant presence in her life, always encouraging Marissa to follow her dreams. His love for family deepened even further with the birth of his beloved grandson, Archer, in April 2024.
After meeting at a water aerobics class, Mark won the affection of his loving wife Judith “Judy” J. Linse whom he married on October 15, 2005. Together, they enjoyed numerous shared pastimes—whale watching, card games, and weekend getaways. As cruise enthusiasts, they visited many picturesque locations, including a once-in-a-lifetime trip to see the glaciers in Alaska. This year, they would have celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary.
In addition to time spent with family and friends, Mark devoted himself to serving his church and the mutual support group Al-Anon.
A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Mark is survived by his wife Judy; his daughter, Marissa Cardwell; son-in-law, Justin Cardwell; and grandson, Archer Justin Cardwell. He is also survived by his sister, Susan Mathias (Raub J.) and a host of loving nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
A private interment will be held at Pierce Brothers Valhalla Memorial Park and Mortuary in North Hollywood, California. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Encino, California, on Saturday September 20, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mark may be made to the City of Hope, 1500 E. Duarte Rd., Duarte, CA 91010-3000. https://ourhope.cityofhope.org/give/286522
