He is survived by his wife of over 66 years, LaDawn Kay and loving father of Brian (Claudia) Basura; Bruce (Melissa) Basura. He is also survived by his grandchildren Michelle Basura, Michael Basura, and John Basura and Amanda Santangelo; a sister Lillian Olofson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was born October 30, 1935, at the family home in Los Angeles, the sixth of seven children. He started work at a young age, took care of several yards, ran errands for neighbors, delivered papers, shined shoes at the barber shop, and delivered milk. As he grew older he went to work in a press shop making water heaters and later, he bought his own wholesale bakery route where for 28 years, he dependably delivered bakery goods for Martino’s Bakery.
Early in life, Mike learned the importance of hard work and he instilled that same work ethic that will carry on from his sons to his grandchildren. He always said “If you are going to do something, do it right”. He was always there for his family and friends. If you needed help or just to be listened to, you could count on him to be there. He was as honest as they come. A kind man with a big heart who always put his family before himself and ensure they had everything they needed.
Many have said that he was the man that was their role model.
The family is respecting Mike’s wish that there will be no funeral service as he wanted to be remembered as he was in life and without the sadness that times such as these brings to family and friends.
Mike, you are now at peace and will live on forever in our hearts.
We love you always.
